Although her father passed away when she was very young and didn’t get to see her grow up, Kehlani keeps his memory alive despite his physical absence.

Despite not having many vivid memories of her father, Kehlani deeply respects him and keeps him alive in her heart through the faint memories she holds.

Kehlani’s aunt adopted and raised her while her mother was behind the bars!

A strong advocate for mental health awareness, Kehlani faced a challenging early life as both of her parents both addicts.

Kehlani’s mother, Meechie, was on the run from the police while she was pregnant with Kehlani.

In fact, her mother went into labor during the run from the police, and it was her father who guided her through the birth over the phone.

Following Kehlani’s birth, her mother returned to jail. Eventually, her mother’s sister came to the scene and adopted her.

Born premature and sick, Kehlani is deeply grateful to her aunt, who came into her life like an angel in disguise.

She was raised by her aunt, who gave up everything to raise her. Kehlani is nothing but profoundly thankful for her aunt’s role in her life.

Later, her mother re-entered her life with two other kids; however, the singer experienced challenges and confusion regarding her relationship with her mother.

The singer even questioned why she couldn’t have a stable presence in her mother’s life like her younger siblings, even though she felt mature and capable.
