Blackened White – Wax Organic

Album Review

Working under the new moniker Wax Organix Vancouver Island producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist Joel Sked (Button Pusher, djchucknorris) storms out of the gate with a funky slab of electro breakbeat goodness for his debut release on Neferiu Records.

On Blackened White Wax Organix spreads his web wide and pulls together a glitchy assortment of funkilicious grooves jacked up with big bouncy bass, soul vocal breaks and ethno-jazz-space-lounge- atmospherics.  Fun and infectious, these twelve tracks are all structured as hypnotic rhythm meditations where the tone of the various pieces morph from retro-lounge (Rise Of The Daywalker) to electro clash (Cycles, Beatbox), from uplifting soul (Solar Glow)to infectious funk (Uptown Boogiedown) and then all that stuff just starts melding together into one ripe and juicy Wax Organix soundquake.

Great for loungin’ or booty bumpin’ Blackened White lives up to its name by riding the midrange between getting’ on up or chilling on out, and like all great works of sonic art it grows on you like tangy fruit and locks into your root system more and more with each interaction.  Totally worth your time, highly recommended and you can get it now from the folks at Neferiu Records by donation. What could be better than that?
