The Sweet Lowdown

The Sweet Lowdown is an acoustic old time/bluegrass/folk trio based in Victoria, B.C. comprised of Amanda Blied (guitar/vocals), Shanti Bremer (banjo/vocals) and Miriam Sonstenes (fiddle/vocals). Formed by a mutual passion for lilting old time grooves, driving bluegrass, and sweet harmonies, the trio blends to form a sound that is both unique and timeless. Winners of this year’s M Award for Favourite Roots/World Music, The Sweet Lowdown has been gaining an audience both at home and across the province and Canada.

The group recorded their second album (and first as a trio) this year with sound engineer/producer/musician Andrew Collins (Foggy Hogtown Boys, Creaking Tree String Quartet) and released it June 2011. To see and hear The Sweet Lowdown, please visit them at www.thesweetlowdown.ca.

About the author

BC Musician Magazine is a very different music magazine. Our primary contributors are working musicians, people who travel the province and beyond to perform in interesting, inspiring, and curious locations. But musicians aren’t just making music. They are people with opinions and interests; they are writers and artists, collaborators and curiosity-seekers.
